A trip to Melukotte
A group of 8 people in 4 bikes set out to enjoy the beauty of Melukotte on 27th Dec 2009. Trip started off quite well and the weather god was with us with a cloudy sky. The picturesque beauty of Mandya district was really amazing. With its lush sugar cane plantations the view was simply too sweet for our eyes. The aroma of boiling sugar pulled us to a stop many a times. We had our picnic lunch on a big rock near to the temple with a view of the valley. A Light drizzle started playing around by the time we finished our food. But it added to the beauty of the hill and valley.
Melukote Temple.
Melukote is in Pandavapura taluk of Mandya district, Karnataka, is one of the sacred places in Karnataka. The place is also known as Thirunarayanapuram. It is built on rocky hills known as Yadavagiri or Yadugiri overlooking the Cauvery valley. It is about 51 km from Mysore and 133 km from Bangalore.
The climb to the temple was not so tiring as there were stone made steps. It took us less than half an hour to climb the hill to the temple. The view from top of the hill is quite breath taking making you wonder "How did God get time to make this earth so beautiful !!!"
The picture shows the view from inside the temple. The temple opens to a view of the beautiful landscape which is amazing.
We started our journey back to Bangalore by 5.00PM the same day only to see the long traffic of all vacationers going back after christmas vacation. Added to misery was the bone chilling rain which did not have the intention of stopping to allow us poor bikers (without rain gear) to reach home by a respectable hour.
Even with this small setback did not so much affect anyone of us as my husband rightly said "Every trip is an experience worth remembering ".
